As usual...

I do less the day after doing tons. The rain cloud skirt hem facing is pinned, and I hemmed a Halloween costume for a teacher's daughter. I still plan on starting to hem my dress...

Unexpected!

Finishing the rainbow painting took about fifteen minutes. Very nice!

And all of the machine work on the rain cloud skirt is done. I didn't plan on that, but that's good!

Now I'm sitting down for the first time in three hours. I'm even going to eat...

Rainbow train!

2017-10-16_08-58-14

After a comedy of errors that included a hairball, dripping paint, finding the paint didn't run so resist was unnecessary, and being thankful the paint wiped off the floor easily, and starting over, the rainbow panel for the back overskirt train drapey thing for the rain cloud dress is half done. Once I stopped fumbling around, this only took about half an hour, I think, but I was Done. So hopefully the other half tomorrow...

And bonus Koshka :)

Dipping a Toe back in

Hi there. Remember me?

The reasons for my silence are myriad. It boiled down to that I needed a break to sort some stuff out. Not everything sorted but I am going to start posting again but probably not every day.

Since I last wrote a lot of things both good and bad have happened. I will have less of a record to look back on than I usual do. I haven’t even been writing in my paper journal and that’s highly unusual for me.

I have a couple of things on that creatively I need to get done both writing and building. I have to get knitting on a puppet sized Dr. Who scarf too.

We have adopted a new cat named Mewlan. She is black with yellow eyes. She has not had an easy life so far and we are trying to correct it. She is starting to warm up to us but still makes it hard to pet her. Jumpy is an understatement. Inky looks positively social as compared to Mewlan’s behavior. We are giving her space and some time to adjust. There are pockets of time that she is very social but then goes back to scaredy cat.

Caroline is adjusting to high school and sorting out how to make her way around there. She has joined the robotics team along with a number of clubs including debate. She hasn’t been struggling but it hasn’t been easy either.

Peter has been writing both on his Patreon account and for various clients. He has a series of conventions lined up this fall but nothing as insane as May/June/July was.

So there you have it. A short summery of our lives.

I am grateful for the quiet spaces.

Nothing done...

But Twila and I went to faire!

Then I graded papers and now I have no energy. But we had a great time and I loved having another chance to wear my beetle wing Game of Thrones dress. And of course I had to get a picture on the giant roadrunner. Close enough to the House Caron nightengale sigil :)

Boo. Errands.

The plan was to start the skirt for the rain cloud dress today, but then errands happened. Boo. Most likely, just collar embroidery tonight!

But, ren fair tomorrow! I'm wearing the beetle wing GoT dress. It will be fun :)

Embroidery!

It's Friday, therefore I'm exhausted. So no bodice at the moment, but collar embroidery is easy. 9 3/4 (ha!) points left to fill with dots!

Progress...

The hem and neckline of the rain cloud dress are finished!

And I ordered twelve yards of organza ribbon to make into a headpiece. Along with the six combs/hair stick things for rays of the sun.

Lots to go, obviously...

Today's progress...

The main sewing on the rain cloud bodice is done. There's obviously tons left, but it feels good to have that done! Especially the darts. Of course, this is one of those silks that pull at the seams if you look at them funny, so the darts already have a little white showing. Oh well, it'll be very busy with trim.

Just over a month left. I still seem to think it's far away...

Tiara, of a sort :)

So, now I have a 3D printed Cersei's crown from Shapeways. This might be the project I'm currently most excited for. Now, or not now because I need to get stuff done, to find the best way to make it silver.

It's open in back and a tiny bit big. This is good because it'll fit over a wig or can overlap as necessary.

My deadline is April. Loads of time!

So close...

Just over half of one scallop left to buttonhole stitch, and the edging for the collar is done!

Also, I really planned on starting the machine sewing on the rain cloud dress. But then I made actual food for dinner and now it's almost 8 and I'm tired in that way that only Monday can be tired. So I think it's just collar embroidery tonight!

Started!

The rain cloud dress is started!

The false back seams are sewn and it's pinned. I briefly thought about hand sewing them because they're short, but decided the time would be better used on the collar.

I will get this all done...

That's better...

I'm nearing halfway on the collar embroidery buttonhole stitching. My hope is to work on it a little each day even if I'm working on other things.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll cut out at least the rain cloud dress and hopefully the bloomer dress. Those are definitely getting machine sewn. Enough of the lazy ha d sewing that's slower...

Zzzz...

It turns out if you go to bed late the night before you have to go to work an hour early, you don't feel like doing anything that day.

I thought I'd at least get embroidery done, but nothing yesterday. But I'm in a pretty good spot to get everything done, so it's ok :)

Wearable!

The checked dress is wearable! If I pin the skirt :)

In other words, bodice closures are done and it just needs trim :)
